Karembeu, who once led Les Bleus to win the 1998 World Cup, admitted that he understood very well that there was a flaw in the 28-year-old midfielder’s performance at club level that was much more obvious than when he was with the national team.
Paul Pogba even heroically managed to help France win the World Cup trophy in Russia in 2018.
“With France he is very responsible on the pitch, he’s a leader on the pitch and the manager trusts him. As a result, he shines on the pitch,” said Karembeu, who is now sporting director at Olympiakos, as reported by The Sun.
“Unfortunately at Manchester United he was often injured and relapsed. It’s not easy for Paul to take criticism, but he’s a smart guy and can bounce back quickly. Even though things didn’t go well, the club had a wonderful season and made it to the final of the Europa League.”
“Paul Pogba has worked just as hard to recover and play again after his injury. “United could have won without him, but kudos to Paul because he managed to get back into the starting eleven, played well and helped United reach the final.”
“He is playing well for his club, but in the national team we put him in the best condition to be successful,” he said.
Previously reported, the French national team welcomed the return of Karim Benzema at Euro 2021 which is expected to sharpen the front line of Les Bleus with Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann.
Didier Deschamps has announced the names of his 26 squad members – including Paul Pogba, for this summer’s European Championship. Benzema was called back after a vacuum since 2015.
After successfully lifting the 2018 World Cup trophy which was their second title, France now believe they have what it takes to win more trophies on the international stage. They have a chance to take revenge and win the Euro title this summer.
Manchester United Are Starting To Worry That Paul Pogba Will Leave On A Free Transfer In 2022
Manchester United want to open contract negotiations with Paul Pogba’s representatives as they fear the French midfielder will deliberately end his contract until 2022 to leave the club on a free next summer.
Manchester United triggered a 12-month extension clause in Paul Pogba’s contract deal in January 2020, six months before the France international’s initial five-year contract was due to expire.
The 2018 World Cup winner has in fact repeatedly hinted at his desire to leave the club since joining for a then world record transfer fee.
Real Madrid has always been touted as a favorite destination for Paul Pogba, while a return to the club that made his name, Juventus, is also debated as another destination for the player nicknamed ‘Il Polpo’.
But Manchester United have always insisted that they don’t want to sell the 28-year-old midfielder and have even fenced him off for a million pounds to prevent interest from Los Blancos or The Old Lady.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also hopes that Manchester United’s current progress in finishing second in the Premier League and reaching the Europa League final can convince Paul Pogba to stay at Old Trafford and sign a new contract.
According to ESPN’s report, the Red Devils are also eager to start contract talks to discover the France international’s true intentions with them worried that the 2018 World Cup winner will deliberately let his contract expire next season.
So with this new contract talk Manchester United want to find a bright spot about Paul Pogba’s true heart intentions. If he wants to stay then he must sign a new contract and if he wants to leave, the club will eventually sell him in the 2020 summer transfer market.
